Do you believe you have to work hard and struggle to make money?

I spent much of my life with a strongly embedded belief that I had to work hard and suffer in order to be worthy. This reflected in my life of always working hard, long hours, and twice as much as anyone else. I would work all day, take care of my kids, family, house and pets… then when everyone was in bed I would work till the wee hours of the morning. Often I would get less than 5 hours of sleep. I did this day after day, year after year.

In fact I did this long before I even had kids. Right from high school I had a job, and not because my family needed the money. In fact they often did not want me to work. When I was in college, same thing. I was determined to be the best, be successful, make my parents proud.

In fact the only way I received the love and approval i so deeply desired form my family was when I was working so hard I was exhausted and overwhelmed. I would talk to them on the phone and they would say “how are you?” “Oh, I am tired, I am working 14 hours  day and then at night and all weekend too” “Good, good, good for you, keep it up” would be the response.

Did my parents consciously want me to spend my life exhausted and overworked, never reaching a point when I felt like I have achieved enough? I doubt it. However, we all receive programming like this when we are growing up. This forms beliefs and this creates habits and our perspective on life. So many people either grew up in the depression or were raised by people who did, and so, at least here in the US, there is a dominant and prevalent mindset that you need to work hard to deserve money.

The beliefs range from

• you have to work hard and long to be worthwhile and make money
• you have to sacrifice your time, health, fun… to make money
• you do not deserve anything you did not work for
• you must struggle to have anything (no pain, no gain!)
• I have to work hard/struggle for my family to be proud of me/ or people will think I am lazy
• I have to struggle to be spiritual/good
• and even struggling for money makes me morally superior (wow, do I know people with this attitude!)

I could talk forever about all the things that happened and did not happen in my life from these kinds of beliefs being so strong within me. You really do not know how much these often unconscious beliefs are affecting your life.

I am lucky in that I am strong and have a lot of stamina… yet, I can see back now on how much I did simply because I did not think I was worthy of achieving without hard work and struggle! What nonsense!

Do you feel like you are experiencing loss? Loss of money, loss of clients, loss of opportunity, loss in the stock market? Where is your focus? • Do my feelings uplift and inspire me?
• What am I thinking about?
• Does it uplift and inspire me?
• Who am I spending time with?
• Do they uplift and inspire me?

Then switch. Choose what you PREFER to feel, think and BE. Replace the unsupportive energies with ones that uplift and inspire you! YES, IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!  Suspend your disbelief and choose to believe this will:

• Attract more joy, love and inner peace
• Attract more ideas, creativity and inspiration
• Attract more interesting, loving, inspiring people
