Lack motivation? Setbacks? What to do…
I coach people who want to change their life, their income, their happiness and their wealth vibe. Whenever we decide to make major changes in our life we encounter resistance. That is just the way it is. We have ingrained habits, automatic reactions, thoughts and feelings and deeply grooved neural pathways that all support what we now desire to change. It does not just up and fly out the door the second you decide to change. I wish it did, believe me! The best way to think of it, so you do not get frustrated and lose momentum and passion, is to simply see it as if you were learning a whole new subject, music insrtrument, job skill or sport. It is just the same, you are installing new ideas, thoughts, feelings, skills and ways of BEing. If you look at it this way, you can go into it knowing it will take a little time, maybe not long, but at least a little and effort, focus or practice. You may get frustrated, but since your intent is to learn it, then you simply get up and try again, over and over till you get it down.
Here is part of an email coaching session with a coaching client who is dealing with setbacks, lack of energy, procrastination after major progress and a perceived business set back. I think most people can relate to feeling like “I guess I am afraid it will take too long…that I may as well give up now and just be happy with my job…”
“…. So in the meantime, remember when you make any changes to your life that are major, even small ones sometimes too, it is a process of changing habits, thoughts, and neural pathways in your brain. Your ego and other internal systems, that have operated the same way for a long time, are designed to keep you ’safe’ by keeping you the same/stuck. Your disappointment with the smoke shop simply dulled your energy and the other family events going on appeared to be also pulling you back.
Similar to parts of you, your family and those close to you will have to adapt to your changes and most people do not like change, in you or anything. This is why we must listen to our own inner voice and move on based on what is within us, not on what is outside of us, even those we love. You must realize that as you change and embrace your power, some people will not like it, but it is just energy and you will begin to attract new people who match the new you based on the new vibrations you are sending out. Often people do not make the changes they really want in their lives because it feels, initially, that all the forces within them and around them are holding them back and the breakthrough seems harder than it is.
Good news! This is part of the transformation, and the reality is this feeling of being stuck is only skin deep. The key is to choose your new vibrations (thoughts, feelings, reality, beliefs, attitudes…) and keep steady to it, no matter what. Tell yourself that there is nothing more important that staying focused on who you are becoming and what you want and do your best to not let the other stuff distract you.
All the feelings you describe below are easier to understand if you look at it like a little kid having a temper tantrum… that is kind of what your ego and current state are doing to keep you stuck. “Why bother”, “it will be too much work”, “it will never work”, these kinds of things are the limiting beliefs talking. Procrastination is also fear of failure or success. I feel you are having more of a fear of success process. This usually goes something like this: “Why am I working so hard, nothing works out for me anyway. I’ll probably do all this and still get nothing for it. And what is I do get successful Then I have to work hard all the time, and people will expect things from me, I am fin the way I am now, no I am not happy, but how do I know I will really be any happier when I do all this. What is I succedd and people want money from me? What is I make money and lose it? What if the clients I am trying to get don’t like what I do, or get mad, or cancel… I will look bad and be embarrassed. It is easier if I just don;lt put my self out there and get noticed. I mean I have to contact all these people and what if they say no, and don’t like what I have. It;s all just a waste of time, I am fooling myself thinking things can get better…” and so on…
You know you want more, and there is no going back now, you have tasted a happier life. There is a phase where it feels to hard to go forward and not possible to go back, and that is natural. It is possible for you to have more money and time and anything else you want. Think of this as if you are learning a new job, a music instrument or game. You have to study it, practice, look at your results, practice more keep reminding yourself of this ‘new’ way of being and so on.
You are NOT being lazy, that is a self defeating thought that is not you, it is the resistance. All the thoughts are. You just have to do whatever you can, moment by moment, day by day, to stay focused on your end goal, the feelings of happiness and inner peace you will feel when you have extra income and extra time. Each day it becomes easier and more habituated, until one day you will naturally think and feel this way and just go about your day like this.
It can be easier when you have someone who holds your dream as well, and yet , in truth, you are the one who makes it happen. So if you do not have anyone who ‘gets’ this, no worries, I am here and befriend yourself. Talk to yourself and help yourself, step by step to take a little action doing what you know you want to do to get the business going.
To get back on track simply be gentle with yourself, and to take small steps till your energy and emotions shift to more positive ones. The key is not to beat yourself up and feel guilty because you got off track and disappointed. This is a waste. So do what you can to not indulge in the feelings and thoughts like this. When you feel yourself thinking this way and feeling low or your energy dropping, stop and close your eyes. Take a breath and step back from yourself. Watch the thoughts and feelings move by in front of you like a stream, just be there. Allow the emotions to subside. Make sure you do not grab hold of any of them. By this I mean if you ’see’ the thought “am I lazy? What’s wrong with me?” be aware not to ‘grab’ it and run with it and start saying more thing like “Yea, I know and I always will be and it won’t change and why do I bother…”… you see? Separate yourself from the stream of depleting thoughts and let them keep moving by, do not dive into them and go deeper. You may have to stop yourself a few times and redirect yourself back to watching instead of participating. This is normal, just keep stepping back, over and over till you can sit and watch. Once the feelings are not as intense, then you can start to ask yourself this:
“This is not the real me, the real me is joy, prosperity, happiness, energy. This is just the old habits talking, and I can change those. Now I choose to feel I can do it, I choose to focus on the great life waiting for me just around the corner. Now I feel more calm, and I am feeling like the storm has passed and that is good, cause now I can look out with a clear view again and focus on the way I know my life can be, really is and will be shortly. I am in control of my thoughts and feelings, and I now choose energy, focus, happoiness….” you get the point, just slowly talk yourself up into a better feeling. It is not possible to accomplish when we feel low and defeated. So don’t try to make major changes when you feel like that, first allow the thoughts and feeling to move through you (do not supress or ignore them too long, as they get stuck, allow them to move through you ). Once the wave is over, you can begin to focus on feeling better,
When things do not go the way we hope, it simply means there is something better coming… hold the framework of “everything is an opportunity : firmly in your mine. Decide that even though the evidence showing up may not yet reflect this, that you KNOW, you BELIEVE, it is in the process of being created and delivered to you. Use the experience to see new ways of doing things, and ask ‘what can I do in this situation next time that will best create the outcome I desire”.
For now I would think of things that make you feel good and do them, pick your energy up and choose one thing to focus on that will be easy to do and you will feel good when it is done. Once you accomplish it, write it in your proof journal (if you have one look back at your past successes and read them, very inspiring!) and then do a small celebration, go have ice cream or take a nap or whatever you like best. Then choose one more thing… think of it like you fell down a canyon and you simply have to climb back to the top and continue on, it is just energy and energy changes all the time!
Decide to adopt the attitude “Nothing can stop me from uncovering my dreams and living my abundant happy life, and this is just a bump on the road!” Meditate, visualize your goals and then set a date to work on your … most important idea…. for 10 minutes only, just sit down and do something… then again….

Law of attraction and love
Law of attraction and love. Great topics, huh? Even better combined! I am excited to bring you 2 calls this week that will give you amazing insight into law of 
attraction and love. LOA coach Catherine Behan is going to talk to us about finding a soulmate. Using law of attraction to attract love… wondrous! I am going to teach a class “law of Attraction Lies and Truths” and how to really manifest while co creating with law of attraction. Romantic Love, self love, unconditional love, tough love, love of serving, love of receiving, love of your body, love of your mind, love of wealth, love of peace, love of joy, love of health, love of your talents, love of to hers talents, love is everywhere.
I saw this wonderful short film once from Spiritual Cinema. It was about law of attraction and finding love. A man and a woman, who did not know each other, were both looking for love. They were both reading books and practicing affirmations and watching movies like the Secret’. They were very passionate about finding romantic love, and we focused constantly on thinking things like : I attract a fun, loving partner now”, ‘I Am lovable and the right partner appears for me now”. The more intent they became about asking over and over, wanting the law of attraction to work for them, they less they noticed what was going on around them.
They went through a series of mishaps, separately until they meet at the end and fall in love. Then they flash back and they show you how many times they actually ran into each other and how they could have met much earlier. They had literally been running into each other over and over. However, because they were so intent on their thoughts and their affirmations, they were in completely inwardly focused. Absorbed by their thoughts, they were out of touch with the present moment. They did not see what was around them. They did not connect with or fully experience the Now moment. In their own world they were visualizing the perfect partner with tons of passion. Yet they did not look for it now they had asked.
Law of attraction is based on magnetic fields; like attract like. So they did meet, they did attract each other, and at record speed in fact. Thankfully the Universe kept giving them more chances to meet, each time they missed an opportunity. You never know what is waiting for you… everything is opportunity! LOA worked, and they got it in the end… they could have gotten what they wanted much faster though! But because they did not notice the first, second, third, even fourth time they ran into each other! They did not see what law of attraction had brought them! It was sweet and funny and such a great reminder.
This is just one of the key components to understanding law of attraction and how to co create with it. Once you have decided what you want, and focused on it, seen it in your minds eye…. you must begin to look around for it with great expectation. It is a dance between inward focus and outward focus. They cycle, see and visualize what you want, then trust it is heard and begin to ‘hunt’ for it. I call it your treasure map, your manifestation map. You ask, and then shift to expectation and begin to look for it to come to you from anywhere.

Everyone wants change, yet is afraid of it. Everyone wants something better, different, and most people never actually change. Isn’t the lack of change frustrating? Isn’t the struggle tiring? Isn’t the desire for security and the fear of failure just sucking your energy?
I know the feeling. I love change myself. It isn’t always easy or pleasant, yet I find feeling stuck to be worse, much worse. So I dive into things and wham!! Massive breakdowns, breakthroughs and eventually… goodies! Yes, I feel fear and yes, some changes have been so painful and shocking that it has taken a good amount of time an effort to find myself again. It is always worth it though, always.
I have had so many experiences in my life that required enormous courage and I felt fear, believe me, and I did it anyway. Facing things that you know you HAVE to do, because your inner voice is very clear and you can feel with all your beingness that this is what you are meant to do, is scary and yet empowering. I have had to fire employees, yuck, and yet each time it became easier to have compassion for them and be true to myself. I asked my husband of 25 years for a separation and eventually a divorce, and I was so scared of hurting and upsetting him. I am so very glad I finally did it, it freed me. It was horrendously painful and the 3 years that it took to finalize were the most devastating I had experienced other than my daughter dying. Worth it. I even ended up ‘divorcing’ my parents, as they turned their back on me emotionally and sided with my ex.
Why was I willing to do that and go through the disapproval, the pain, the guilt and the financial hardship? My inner being needed to be free. It became more important for me to live the life I know I was meant to live, to express myself, help others and enjoy every moment. It was not possible within that situation. I held on to the familiar way too long! It was oddly easier to stay, to suffer in silence and think positively, put my energy into my business and my kids and ignore the fact I felt suffocated, unsupported, trapped and weighed down. What a waste of time and energy! Now, I look back and wish I had done it earlier, way earlier. It was not worth those years of my life gone, lived in partial joy and a lot of self blame. Not for the security of a house and husband with a good paycheck, not for the ‘appearance’ of doing the right thing (marriage, children, work hard, blah blah…).
Why didn’t I get the courage to get out sooner? I believed that it would get better again. I thought I could fix it. I was strong and had a lot of stamina and pushed myself to be everything for everyone. I was determined to be the best, nicest and most successful and please all these other people. I thought if I just made enough money my husband would be happy and be less stressed and full of fear all the time. I hoped he would start to treat me kindly again once we got past whatever the current busy-ness was. I thought if I tried harder, did more and never spoke up about my feelings he would care about me, value me and thank me. Fat chance! Why? Because it was all his fault? No, that thinking is victim vibe thinking and is a trap you may never get out of. Yes, I was hurt and angry with him and I did not want to live with him anymore. I did want him to be happy though, and I do not blame him, I know I am responsible.
So why was it ‘fat chance’ anything was going to change? Because we cannot change other people. Becasue I was and am responsible for staying, for believing, for choosing to trust him and others, for waiting for them to change. I am the one that chose to ignore it, to trust people and to stay around people who gave me no respect. I am the one who did not put myself first. No one else can do that but me. It was never going to change because all my focus was on trying to please others, trying to fit into what others thought I should do or be. Hoping things would just get better or thinking if I just did the right things, my husband and parents and everyone else would be pleased, happy and approve of me. I would get love and then all would be good. NOT.
I want to invite you to truly look at your life, your current emotional state. How do you feel about things? Money, love, house, job, health, your body, business, your state of mind, inner peace. Is there some area or many areas you have wanted, wished for and even worked towards change and not achieved it? Is there something you need to have shift RIGHT NOW in order to have inner peace and for you to move forward in joy? I know many people are feeling a money crunch right now, for starters. Well, really go deep, and think about it. Movement is life, stuckness is death. Living death.
I can promise you it feels soooo much better to summon the courage and let go of the past, and clutter and event the familiar, and commit to change. Your life is lived in this now moment, and unless you grab it and fill it up fully with what YOU want, then what is the point? The point is not to follow a bunch of rules, be the nicest person, avoid conflict, try to please everyone else, keep working hard so one day you might be happy and enjoy yourself… Stop right now!!
Why? Doing these and so many more things that do not feed our soul is such an incredible waste~ of time, energy, life, joy, love… Living your own life the way you intended does require courage. It does requires transforming your mindset, choosing what you want and not what others want for you. It requires really being honest with yourself and others and believing, loving and expressing yourself. It is ‘work’… and yet, it can be so fun and the end result is sooo worth it!
Even if it scares you to let go of your perception of security (sorry, there is no real security, it is just an illusion), the familiar people, things, places and work, you must do it. You must do it to claim your life, your power and your joy. Your success, in all areas of life even love, will come only when you are willing to let go and choose from within. Choose from within you, what your inner being, your authentic self desires. As you do this, you move into a whole new vibration, literally. You attract a whole new life… people, situations, moods, events, opportunities and more. It is like living in a different world when you decide to have the courage to live your life on your terms and no one elses! Everything feels possible, even probable and you have an inner trust and peace that pervades your whole life. What a difference!
